What is Cantopen Ransomware
Cantopen is a ransomware infection that was discovered quite recently. It encrypts personal files by adding the .cantopen extension and creating the HELP_DECRYPT_YOUR_FILES.txt text file to blackmail victims into paying the ransom. To illustrate, a file named 1.pdf
will be altered to 1.pdf.cantopen
and drop its original shortcut icon. Such a change will be applied to all the targeted data making it no longer accessible.
Oops All Of your important files were encrypted Like document pictures videos etc..
Don't worry, you can return all your files!
All your files, documents, photos, databases and other important files are encrypted by a strong encryption.
How to recover files?
RSA is a asymmetric cryptographic algorithm, you need one key for encryption and one key for decryption so you need private key to recover your files. It’s not possible to recover your files without private key.
The only method of recovering files is to purchase an unique private key.Only we can give you this key and only we can recover your files.
What guarantees you have?
As evidence, you can send us 1 file to decrypt by email We will send you a recovery file Prove that we can decrypt your file
Please You must follow these steps carefully to decrypt your files:
Send $500 worth of bitcoin to wallet: bc1q6ug0vrxz66d564qznclu9yyyvn6zurskezmt64
after payment,we will send you Decryptor software
contact email: CCWhite@onionmail.org
Your personal ID: -
In order to recover the blocked files, victims are instructed to follow guidelines presented in HELP_DECRYPT_YOUR_FILES.txt. It is said victims should purchase a special recovery key which costs 500$ dollars. The payment has to be done in BTC (Bitcoin) to the attached crypto address. After following their requests and completing the payment, victims should contact cybercriminals and receive decryption software eventually. Unfortunately, we have to inform you that paying the ransom does not guarantee they will recover your data eventually. At the same time, it is impossible to decrypt Cantopen files without the help of cybercriminals. The virus uses RSA algorithms which makes manual decryption practically undoable. You can avoid paying the ransom and recover your data safe by using backup copies. In case such copies are absent and you still do not want to risk paying for the decryption, find information on possible recovery methods in our tutorial below. Some of them may be able to decrypt your data at least to a partial extent. Note that prior to trying any of the recovery methods, it is important to make sure Cantopen Ransomware is removed from your system. Do it with the help of our instructions below.
How Cantopen Ransomware infected your computer
Ransomware infections may sneak unsupervised via many possible channels – e.g. e-mail spam letters, trojans, unprotected RDP configuration, backdoors, keyloggers, web-injects, fake software updates/installers, and other social engineering tricks on the web.
E-mail spam letters are perceived as messages containing malicious attachments. These attachments are usually named as something “important” or “urgent” to tug users into opening them. It is also common to see such messages delivered from sources named similar to legitimate companies (DHL, DPD, FedEx, etc.). If you see a message urging you to open some Word, Excel, PDF, EXE, or JavaScript files, be sure it is a trap aimed at infecting your PC. Apart from this distribution method, users should be more careful while downloading pirated or cracked software from the web. There are some websites that spread malware camouflaged under free programs. Such websites may also be opened via fake ads claiming your PC is outdated or infected with malware. To minimize the risk of getting infected with such threats in the future, it is important to follow a set of simple rules when using the web – be more careful and not trust everything placed on the Internet. You can follow our guide to extend your knowledge on various protection methods against infections we discussed above.

How to protect computer from viruses, like Cantopen Ransomware, in future
1. Get special anti-ransomware software
Use ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware
Famous antivirus brand ZoneAlarm by Check Point released a comprehensive tool, that will help you with active anti-ransomware protection, as an additional shield to your current protection. The tool provides Zero-Day protection against ransomware and allows you to recover files. ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware is compatible with all other antiviruses, firewalls, and security software except ZoneAlarm Extreme (already shipped with ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware) or Check Point Endpoint products. The killer features of this application are: automatic file recovery, overwrite protection that instantly and automatically recovers any encrypted files, file protection that detects and blocks even unknown encryptors.
2. Back up your files
As an additional way to save your files, we recommend online backup. Local storage, such as hard drives, SSDs, flash drives, or remote network storage can be instantly infected by the virus once plugged in or connected to. Cantopen Ransomware uses some techniques to exploit this. One of the best services and programs for easy automatic online backup is iDrive. It has the most profitable terms and a simple interface. You can read more about iDrive cloud backup and storage here.
3. Do not open spam e-mails and protect your mailbox
Malicious attachments to spam or phishing e-mails are the most popular method of ransomware distribution. Using spam filters and creating anti-spam rules is good practice. One of the world leaders in anti-spam protection is MailWasher Pro. It works with various desktop applications and provides a very high level of anti-spam protection.
