What is DORRA Ransomware

DORRA Ransomware is a malicious software variant from the Makop ransomware family, designed to encrypt files on a victim’s computer, making them inaccessible until a ransom is paid. This ransomware typically spreads through phishing emails, malicious advertisements, drive-by downloads, and pirated software. Once it infects a computer, DORRA encrypts files using strong encryption algorithms such as AES, Salsa20, and RSA, and appends the .DORRA extension to the filenames. For example, 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.[2AF20FA3].[dorradocry@outlook.com].DORRA. After encryption, DORRA generates a ransom note named +README-WARNING+.txt, which informs the victim that their files have been encrypted and stolen. The note warns against attempting to decrypt the files independently, as this could corrupt them and lead to permanent data loss. It instructs the victim to contact the attackers via the provided email address (dorradocry@outlook.com) and to send their unique ID, embedded in the filenames, to receive further instructions on how to decrypt their files. The note also threatens to publish the victim’s data on the internet if the ransom is not paid.

+README-WARNING+.txt
Your files are encrypted and an important part of your data is stolen!!!
If you try to decrypt the files yourself, they may be corrupted and this may lead to the loss of your files!
You need to contact us at this email address: dorradocry@outlook.com
If we do not receive a response from you, your data will end up on the Internet.
Send me ID, which is indicated in the name of your files,
and you will receive instructions on how to decrypt all files.
Do not ignore this message, contact us as soon as possible to quickly get your files back.

Currently, there are no guaranteed decryption tools available for DORRA ransomware. The encryption methods used are highly secure, and decryption typically requires the key held by the attackers. Victims are advised not to pay the ransom, as there is no guarantee that the attackers will provide the decryption key, and paying the ransom may encourage further criminal activity. Instead, victims should check resources like the No More Ransom project for any available decryption tools, restore their files from backups if available, and seek assistance from cybersecurity professionals to safely remove the ransomware and explore potential recovery options.

How DORRA Ransomware infects computers

DORRA Ransomware typically spreads through several common vectors:

Phishing Emails: Cybercriminals use social engineering techniques to trick users into opening malicious email attachments or clicking on links that download the ransomware.
Malvertising: Malicious advertisements can redirect users to exploit kits that download the ransomware onto their systems.
Drive-By Downloads: Visiting compromised websites can result in the automatic download of ransomware without the user’s knowledge.
Pirated Software: Downloading and installing pirated software can also introduce ransomware to a system.
Exploiting System Vulnerabilities: Attackers may exploit unpatched vulnerabilities in software to gain access and deploy ransomware.

As an additional way to save your files, we recommend online backup. Local storage, such as hard drives, SSDs, flash drives, or remote network storage can be instantly infected by the virus once plugged in or connected to. DORRA Ransomware uses some techniques to exploit this. One of the best services and programs for easy automatic online backup is iDrive. It has the most profitable terms and a simple interface. You can read more about iDrive cloud backup and storage here.

3. Do not open spam e-mails and protect your mailbox
