What is SearchBlox
SearchBlox (200,000+ downloads) is a rogue browser extension designed to hack Roblox accounts. This extension is ostensibly developed to help Roblox players fast search for various servers and allegedly play with famous YouTubers. In fact, quite recently it was discovered that SearchBlox has a malicious JavaScript, which allows developers to access Roblox accounts, automatically trade limited items (de facto steal them) via Rolimon’s platform, and steal Robux (in-game currency) as well. SearchBlox is similar to another malicious extension called RoSearcher, which was popular around 3 months ago and was being used for stealing Roblox accounts as well. And despite both of them are no longer available for installation from Chrome Web Store, they managed to score a number of downloads and still continue affecting numerous players who do not know about their malicious abilities. Thus, if the SearchBlox (or other) extension happens to be installed in your browser, we strongly advise you to delete it immediately. Use our step-by-step guide to do so below. After this, it is also worth changing your login credentials (password) for your Roblox account to avoid further or not-yet-happened abuse.
How SearchBlox infected your computer
As mentioned, SearchBlox is an extension that was available for download from the official Chrome Web Store. Malicious extensions tend to appear even on legitimate resources from time to time. Cybercriminals can also re-upload them (for example, after recent deletion), give them different names, and continue infecting innocent users. A similar story happened to RoSearcher, which made its malicious code public and allowed anyone to upload its clone onto legitimate extension markets. Please note that this is unlikely to be the only method for getting users to install the SearchBlox extension. Infection may also occur when users download free software from third-party websites like file-hosting websites, P2P sharing networks, and so forth. In addition to installing pirated or cracked software, the downloaded installers may also deliver an unwanted/malicious extension without users knowing about it. Some malware developers also distribute malicious extensions/programs via deceptive pop-up ads and fake Flash Player installers. To make sure no such infections fancy installation in the future, it is important to avoid dubious and unofficial download channels. Even when it comes to official platforms like Chrome Web Store, always pay attention to reviews and ratings of the software you install. A good method to confirm the trustworthiness of a third-party extension or program is also to search one on the web for if any negative information has ever surfaced about it before.
