What is Sfile Ransomware
Alike others, Sfile Ransomware is a virus designed to encrypt files and hold them locked until the ransom is paid. Sfile has not been that popular around media discussions, but there are some users who have complained about its recent activity. After installation, the virus scans your device for multiple files and, once found, encrypts them by changing extensions to .sfile2 and .sfile3. To illustrate, the original 1.mp4 will be changed to 1.mp4.sfile2 or 1.mp4.sfile3 and become isolated as a result. To decrypt the ciphered data, you should contact cybercriminals through the e-mail attached in the ransom note that is created after encryption. The ransom note is called !!_FILES_ENCRYPTED_.txt and contains following information:
Your network has been penetrated.
All files on each host in the network have been encrypted with a strong algorithm.
Backups, replications were either encrypted or wiped. Shadow copies also removed.
DO NOT RESET OR SHUTDOWN - files may be damaged.
DO NOT RENAME OR MOVE the encrypted and readme files.
DO NOT DELETE *.sfile2 files.
This may lead to the impossibility of recovery of the certain files.

Very often, after reaching out to frauds, they will claim a certain amount of cash that has to be paid within an allocated period of time unless you want the price to double up. Unfortunately, trusting extortionists is a huge risk because they might not unlock your data even after the purchase. Instead, we recommend uninstalling Sfile Ransomware from your computer and decrypting the data with third-parties tools.
How Sfile Ransomware infected your computer
The history of ransomware suggests a couple of most popular distribution methods. One of them is via fake e-mail messages classified as spam. These mails are often promoted with malicious attachments that, once opened, start running executable scripts for infecting your system. Another technique that proved to be very effective is by spreading trojans that cause so-called chain infections. To explain, the trojan is a type of virus that contains a certain script meant to install various infections like ransomware. The most tragic is that users cannot avert the process and are forced to deal with malware as a result. Besides that, it is strongly recommended to avoid clicking on fake advertisements overlaying on websites. Of course, usually, it is impossible to find out which one is fake, but you can use Adblock browser extension to hide unwanted content hence prevent inadvertent infiltrations. In addition, cybercriminals may exploit other distribution channels like botnets, backdoors, keyloggers, and unprotected RDP configuration. In case Sfile ransomware attacked your computer, we have prepared a full guide on how to delete it and restore the data.

How to protect computer from viruses, like Sfile Ransomware, in future
1. Get special anti-ransomware software
Use ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware
Famous antivirus brand ZoneAlarm by Check Point released a comprehensive tool, that will help you with active anti-ransomware protection, as an additional shield to your current protection. The tool provides Zero-Day protection against ransomware and allows you to recover files. ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware is compatible with all other antiviruses, firewalls, and security software except ZoneAlarm Extreme (already shipped with ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware) or Check Point Endpoint products. The killer features of this application are: automatic file recovery, overwrite protection that instantly and automatically recovers any encrypted files, file protection that detects and blocks even unknown encryptors.
2. Back up your files
As an additional way to save your files, we recommend online backup. Local storages, such as hard drives, SSDs, flash drives or remote network storages can be instantly infected by the virus once plugged in or connected to. Sfile Ransomware uses some techniques to exploit this. One of the best services and programs for easy automatic online backup is iDrive. It has the most profitable terms and simple interface. You can read more about iDrive cloud backup and storage here.
3. Do not open spam e-mails and protect your mailbox
Malicious attachments to spam or phishing e-mails is most popular method of ransomware distribution. Using spam filters and creating anti-spam rules is good practice. One of the world leaders in anti-spam protection is MailWasher Pro. It works with various desktop applications, and provides very high level of anti-spam protection.
