What is TruoApp

TruoApp is a malicious program classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) or Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA). It is known for its intrusive behavior, which includes injecting advertisements into websites, redirecting browser search queries, and hijacking browser settings. TruoApp often installs without the user’s explicit consent, typically through bundling with other software, deceptive ads, or phishing emails. TruoApp is categorized as a browser hijacker and adware. It installs itself without the user’s awareness and begins displaying unwanted ads and redirecting browser searches. Users often notice a significant increase in pop-up ads, banners, and other intrusive advertising. The program can also modify browser settings, leading to auto-redirects to dubious websites. In some cases, TruoApp has been reported to steal account credentials, making it particularly dangerous. Victims have reported losing access to accounts such as Riot, Steam, and Facebook. This indicates the presence of additional malware, such as Trojans, which can steal sensitive information.

How TruoApp infected your computer

TruoApp primarily infects computers through bundling with free software, deceptive online ads, and phishing emails. When users download software from unofficial sources or click on misleading ads, they may inadvertently install TruoApp. This program can also be distributed through email attachments or links that download and install the application when opened. Once installed, TruoApp exhibits several disruptive behaviors. It hijacks the browser homepage and search engine, redirects search queries through shady search engines, and opens new tabs displaying advertisements. These ads often promote software, fake updates, and tech support scams. Additionally, TruoApp can install unwanted browser extensions and toolbars, further compromising the user’s browsing experience. To prevent infections like TruoApp, users should download software only from trusted sources, be cautious with email attachments, and use up-to-date security software. During software installation, users should opt for custom or advanced installation options to avoid unwanted applications. Practicing good browsing habits and being vigilant about the sources of downloads can significantly reduce the risk of infection.
