What is Walliant

Walliant is classified as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that masquerades as a benign tool for changing desktop wallpapers, but it operates with more dubious intentions, specifically as proxyware. This application hijacks users’ internet bandwidth, allowing it to be utilized for both legitimate and malicious purposes, such as data collection or unauthorized browsing. Users often unknowingly install Walliant through deceptive pop-up ads or bundled software during downloads, leading to an unwelcome presence on their systems. Once installed, it can significantly degrade the browsing experience, resulting in intrusive ads, slow internet speeds, and potential privacy risks. Moreover, Walliant’s functionality extends beyond wallpaper changes, as it may engage in activities that compromise user data and lead to financial losses. Due to these risks, it is crucial for users to be vigilant and remove such unwanted applications promptly to maintain their system’s integrity and security.

How Walliant infected your computer

Walliant typically infects computers through deceptive practices often associated with Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). Users may inadvertently download this unwanted software by engaging with misleading advertisements or visiting dubious websites that promote its installation. The application is commonly bundled with legitimate software, a tactic known as “bundling,” where users unknowingly consent to install Walliant alongside the desired program by opting for default or quick installation options. Once installed, Walliant can hijack internet bandwidth by leveraging the user’s connection for proxy services, which raises significant privacy and security concerns. Furthermore, it may introduce additional risks such as adware and browser hijacking, which can lead to a degraded browsing experience and potential exposure of sensitive information. To avoid such infections, users should always download software from reputable sources and remain vigilant during installation processes.
